Orbi - Configuring wired ethernet - backhaul and fronthaul

Dear Community,

I am currently considering to buy an Orbi system and I was wondering:

If satellites in the Orbi system are wired up via Ethernet Backhaul, is it possible to reconfigure the 5GHz backhaul WiFi link to be used as a fronthaul link (for clients), such that you end up having a 2.4 / 2x 5GHz system, wired via the Ethernet Backhaul?

Or is the backhaul just disabled, and sitting there without use when the satellite is wired up?

Thanks for your help!

  • Hi Darren,

    Thanks for your answer!

If you get into a situation where all satellites are wired, it would still be a very nice addition to the product I think, if it would be possible to reconfigure.

Anyhow, I bought the product yesterday and I am very enthousiastic about it!

    Thanks Darren,

No you can not do that as you can still have satellites on wireless backhaul at the same time another one is on wired backhaul.

Darren, when the wired ethernet back is engaged on all satelites, does the 5gz back channel signal shut off? I ask because this higher frequency backchannel interferes with my wireless headphones (Astro A50s).

No it does not disable the wireless backhaul.
