Orbi and Ring products issues
I recently switched from one router + repeater to the Orbi system. No installation problem. When I first connected my Ring Doorbell and 2 Ring Spotlight cameras, no connection issues. One camera ...

I have the folllowing Ring products myself:
1 video doorbell pro
4 floodlight cams
1 spotlight cam w/solar panel and 2 full batteries installed (new).
For me, the issue was with the new spotlight cam. Somehow the Live View behavior of it was erratic. Considering I have 5 other Ring cameras, I have a pretty good frame of reference to compare against. My floodlight cams and doorbell pro connect to satellites without any problems. In fact, I've setup my satellites within close proximity to them so my Live View can come up within 2-3 seconds. Now for SpotLight cam I just recently purchased, the Live View was working randomly and it is connected directly to my router. I had to constantly try different 2.4ghz channels to toggle it to work, but that got annoying really fast and it wasn't any specific channel required to make it work, it was just the updating of the channel which would poke it to work. I did the inevitable and added a Ring Chime Pro between the Spotlight cam and the router, eventhough my signal strength was full and my RSSI was good. My floodlight cam is actually further away than the Spotlight cam from my router node and it works solid with very fast LiveView operation. So the only thing that got it to work consistently for me was the Ring Chime Pro for the Spotlight cam only.

I've actually managed to get all the cameras to work now without any Ring Chime Pros. Make sure you don't have too many overlapping Orbi nodes (as they cause a lot of interference). I had to disable implicit beamforming and MU-MIMO to make it more reliable. All 6 of my Ring cams do Live View reliably now, but i've got other issues like Dropped frames in recordings and bad sound, but I don't believe those have anything to do with the Orbi, but more on the Ring server side of things.

My issue is a little different.
My Ring2 Doorbell normally connects to the satellite - and when it does works fine.
However occasionally it connects to the router (even though satellite signal is much stronger).
In this case it reports poor WiFi signal and of course performance is responsiveness and performance is poor.
All my other (30+) devices seem to have no problem connecting to the Orbi (Router or Satellite) with strongest signal.

I had the same issue after a power outage (the main router is on a UPS but the satellite is not). It would be nice if there was a way through the GUI to kick off a device. What I ended up doing was renaming 2.4G radio through the CLI and putting it back after all the devices fell off. But that’s a pain. Not sure there is any real fix to that other than a device should pick the strongest signal...and honestly that’s on Ring.
- Voge1973Feb 21, 2018TutorStill having my original issue..
Ring Doorbell and Stick Up Cam connected to the main router with really good signal They drop off the network sporadically as if they go dormant or in a standby mode - stick cam on connected to the satellite no problems at all... only way to get them to wake up is motion detection, doorbell ring or rebooting the router. - VandergraffMar 03, 2018Apprentice
I am still having issues where my Ring 2 Doorbell is randomly moving between router and satellite.
When connected to the router RSSI is ~ -72 - but Liveview does work (surprising given the poor RSSI). The doorbell of course complains about poor WiFi connection.
When connected to Satellite RSSI is ~ 40 but (like others) Liveview doesn't work.
Just talked to Ring support and like others here they will end me a Chime Pro to try. Now my satellite is between the router and door bell. Pretty much anywhere I put the Chime Pro (that will have decent connection to the doorbell) it is likely to see my satellite as the strongest WiFi signal.
For the others who found the Chime pro fixed their issue - did the Chime Pro need to connect to the router to make it work?
- rmadilaoMar 03, 2018GuideVandergraff
Once you attach to Chime Pro, your cams wont connect to anything else. It will help with your back and forth switching.
Ive eliminated the Chime pro in my setup and have all 6 Ring cam devices working great now using a 2 node Orbi Pro setup. - ianstephensMar 03, 2018Tutor
How did you fix the issues with Orbi and Ring devices? We are too using Orbi Pro with one base and one satellite. Did you change anything specifically or do anything "special" to make them work?
- VandergraffMar 03, 2018Apprentice
One other question on the Chime Pro. Does this act as a normal WiFi extender - I don't really want other devices apart from the Ring Doorbell connecting to the Chime Pro. Everything else is working great with great speeds connected to my Orbi Router and Satellite.
- ianstephensMar 03, 2018Tutor
A Chime Pro will ONLY connect to Ring devices - no other non-Ring device will attempt to connect or use the Chime Pro.
- rmadilaoMar 03, 2018Guide
Vandergraff It's a dedicated extender only for Ring devices. Nothing else can connect to it. And once your Ring device is "attached" to your Chime Pro, it will always use the Chime Pro, regardless of signal strength of anything else around it.

I've gone through multiple mesh router systems over the past 3 months. I finally settled on Orbi Pro as it's actually the best of the bunch for my physical environment. First and foremost, make sure your router and satellite are not too close together. This will help with Ring cam devices wandering between nodes.
Maybe it's easier to tell me what you've tried. In my case, I stripped down the system from all the advanced features and started from basic. As I got it working, I added back the advanced features of the Orbi Pro, one by one. I've pretty much tried everything possible and it all works great now.
What is the worst issue you are dealing with right now? No live view?

Thank you rmadilao,
My Ring Doorbell2 always failed to connect "live view" on the first attempt, and then would connect on the 2nd attempt. The process through the ring app was long and cumbersome. I disabled beamforming and MU-MIMO, and "live view" then worked instantly. I experimented by enabling just beamforming, and then just MU-MIMO. My doorbell2 "live view" works fine if feamforming is enabled, but will not work until the 2nd attempt to connect if MU-MIMO is enabled. Your suggestion fixed my issue with "live view."
Thank you!!

Thx so much. Can you explain how you disabled beamforming and MU-MIMO?
Thx!
- bayoyongJun 27, 2019Tutor
Figured it out. :) But I don't have either of those enabled, and live view still doesn't work for me. :(

Hi bayoyong,
Yes, it is under "Advanced Setup," then "Wireless Settings." At the bottom of the screen, make sure that Enable Implicit Beamforming" and "Enable MU-MIMO" have no checks in the check boxes. Then click "Apply." After further testing today, I find that my Ring Doorbell2 works best for "Live View" when both of these check boxes are not checked (See screen shot).

I also assigned a static IP number to my Ring Doorbell2 through the Orbi configuration screen. I tried the static assignment first, and that did nothing. The second thing I tried was disabling beamforming and MI-MUMO. Try assigning a static IP to the Ring doorbell.
On my system, nothing was assigned to 192.168.1.9, so I used that IP. The screen is found under "Advanced," then "Setup," then "LAN Setup" (see attached screen shot).

Hey! Thx again so much! I went to the screen you described. But I'm not seeing my Ring listed. I see my ChimePro but not my Ring. There are a few titled "Unknown" or other random names. Was it obvious for yours?
Thx again!
Jeff

Your Ring doorbell will only be listed as a connected device if you used it recently. What I did was used the Ring app on my phone to pull up the "Live View." If it does not pull up, it will at least be trying. That should be all you need to then see the Doorbell "pop up" on your screen of listed devices that are connected. Once you see it, look at the IP number it is using, then go back to the screen where you can assign it manually.

Hmm..yeah that didn't do it for me. Maybe b/c my Ring is connected to the ChimePro's network? I looked up the MAC address for the Ring and do not see any device with that address in the list as well. Again, really appreciate the help.

In the Ring app, under "devices," "door bell," "Device Health," what is your signal strength reading? When I had Beamforming & MU-MIMO enabled, my strength reading was awesome (RSSI - 34). Now that they are disabled, my reading RSSI reading is only 63. If you get much higher than the mid sixties, that can be an issue, too, b/c the signal is too weak. Have you tried taking the Chime Pro out of the network? Or is the doorbell too far away to connect to anything without the extender? I took the my extender out, b/c with the Orbi router and 2 satellites I had no need for any extenders. The extender was actually a problem in my system.
- bayoyongJun 27, 2019Tutor
Signal strength is RSSI-6. Is that good?
The doorbell is fairly close to an Orbi satellite. And the ChimePro is right next to both. So yeah, maybe I will try taking the ChimePro out.
- Den34Jun 27, 2019Guide
Yes, RSSI - 6 is awesome. Low numbers are excellent. Sixty-eight, 69, 70 is the range where the signal is getting too weak. Sounds like your extender may be the problem.
- bayoyongJun 27, 2019Tutor
Ok, I will try that. I'm curious...when you click Live View does yours still say "Activating Device" before Live View appears? I was away for a week, and Live View would not work at all. Now that I'm home, it works pretty quickly...after a brief "Activating Device" screen appears.

Since assigning static IP and disabling both beamforming & MU-MIMO, when I click "Live View" I see, "Sending Request" and then instantly after that I see a live pic of my front yard.

Ok thx again so much for all of your help! I'll try removing the ChimePro and let you know if that helps.
