Orbi Power Cycling
Hi all,
We've been having a few ISP issues of late and wondering if this might be causing our Orbi to power cycle. It's running in Router mode, connected to our ISP provided router, It seems to randomly restart every now and again, including this morning (when my wife had started work, so was quite disruptive).
I've been doing some digging and managed to find the UpAgent.log file which shows when the connection drops. I can then see the auto_fw_upgrade_log file which shows an entry 'AUTO FW CHECK: power cycle', at the time that it all went down.
Anyone know if this power cycle can be caused when the internet connection drops, or what else might be triggering it?
I'm on FW 2.7.2.104.
Thanks,
DCP

As far as I am aware, only a loss of power or deliberate act by the user will cause the Orbi to power cycle.
Does the regular Orbi log show the system restarting?
The message should be something like this:
[Initialized, firmware version: V2.7.2.106] Tuesday, April 20, 2021 23:13:16
Does the regular Orbi log show internet connecting or disconnecting?
[Internet connected] IP address: 172.249.112.236, Tuesday, April 20, 2021 23:13:17 [Internet disconnected] Sunday, April 25, 2021 14:16:29
(These dates are not significant. I email every Orbi log to myself and create an Excel file for each month. To find these entries, I sorted the entire file to find what the log messages look like. It appears the last time I restarted my Orbi was April 20.

Flaky power supply?
Hardware problems in the units itself (bad RAM), causing spontaneous reboot?
These things are small computers .. so thinking of random restarts causes of PC's ....

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktopHas a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last update?
