Orbi RBK12 - question about setting up bridge mode on combined router/modem
Hi, I'm trying to set up bridge mode on my combined router/modem to use with my Orbi RBK12. My ISP isn't able (i.e. won't) help me to set up bridge mode, so in the end I successfully set up the DMZ settings to use with the Orbi. However, I'm now having problems where the Orbi satellite keeps dropping the connection. Netgear support have told me that this is because of an IP address conflict.
Ideally to solve the problem I want to put the router/modem into bridge mode (so I don't have to buy a standalone modem). I have found the relevant settings in the gateway admin page for the router/modem, and it is possible to select bridge mode, but there is a warning on the page that says "Changing any setting here will disable the Auto sensing of your WAN interface" (and I've attached a screenshot showing this). My question is, how bad is this? I.e. can I safely choose bridge mode and disable the auto sensing of the WAN interface, or is this a bad idea?
Thanks,
Seth

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktopCheck to be sure the ISP modems IP address doesn't conflict with the RBRs, 192.168.1.1. IF it does, you should beable to factory reset the RBR and walk thru the setup wizard while it's connected to the modem and it should change this for you or you can manually change it on the RBRs web page using a web browser. Or you can change the ISP modems IP address to something else, like 192.168.2.1...Then leave the RBR at 192.168.1.1.
- SethOxGuideHi, thanks for your reply. It’s a Technicolor DWA0120.
Thankl you for confirming the modem model. :smileywink:
You can do a search online to see if that model pulls up any kind of bridging information. Might ask the mfr about this as well.
