Orbi RBR 50 - no download speed

Hi!

When I installed a new 4G modem/router the function Test my speed in Orbi only tests upload speed, donwload stays at 0.0 (and ping is also 0.0).

Everything else seems to work as before and other speed tests that use the Orbi WiFi works fine.

Testing with Orbi speedtest gives me a better value for the incoming speed from the modem.

Any suggestions why?

Regards

Leif

  • Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

  • Tell us about this 4G modem/router

you do realize that you can't run 2 routers without special configuration?

Yes, but I have problems with the bridge on the modem/router.

It can put one RJ45 port in bridgemode but when I use that port with Orbi in router mode Orbi will not connect to internet.

Now I have Orbi in AP mode on a normal port in the router/modem and then the problem above disappered.

Any suggestions on how to configure the Orbi on the bridge port?

The modem/router is Technicolor, Telia X2.

Thanks everyone for the different suggestions!

I have tried to disable all wifi radios on the modem and configured AP mode on the Orbi router.

It seems to work fine now.

      Regards

      • Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

        Enjoy. :smileywink:

Sadly, the same problem is back.

Orbi in AP mode, router wifi off.

Putting Orbi on router bridge port results in no internet on Orbi.

      • I'd contact your ISP and have them help you ensure there modem is configured correctly and is working. If the RBR is in AP mode, it should get internet services from the ISP modem/router if using a good quality LAN cable.
