Orbi RBR10 - TIme for an upgrade?
I have an Orbi RBR10 with two satellites. I am happy with them as we are not gamers or big-time streamers. I am concerned primarily about security, but an increase in speed is always welcome. I am not sure if the RBR10 uses WPA2. Does anyone know?
I do have fast internet, so I am sure the speed bottle-neck for speed is the router.
If I upgrade to something like an RBR50 (which can be had relatively inexpensively) I can use the satellites, at least as far as I know. Does anyone have experience with this kind of upgrade? Do I gain that much in performance and security?
Finally, is it possible to set the router to re-boot itself periodically as an added security measure?
Thanks!

Yes WPA2 is supported on all Orbi systems. Has been around for years.

What speed UP and Down do you pay for from the ISP?

50 series is a good system, however is getting up in age, been around since about 2016. Not sure how much longer NG will be putting out FW updates for it. Newer generation Orbi systems are 350, 750, 760, 850, 960 and 970 series.

Reboots don't help with security. If a router needs to be rebooted all the time, then there is a problem that needs to be fixed. Routers are designed and meant to be online 24/7 with no problems.

What actual speed do you pay for and how big is your home?
What speeds are you getting with the current system?
I hesitate to tell people to upgrade if they're maxing out their speeds and systems are working fine.
If you're having issues, slow downs, then sure, an upgrade is always good from that system as its a base model mesh system.
I probably wouldn't go to the 50 series as with Wifi 7 (BE) coming out this year, it'll be 2 generations behind. Not saying it performs slowly but its no doubt getting a bit older and closer to end of life.

The plan says it is 500Mpbs service. When standing next to the router with my phone, I get about 120 as a max. I haven't tried plugging my laptop into the lan jack on the router.
Does this seem right?

Well depends on design and support of the phone, MIMO support and the Orbi system. Possible that combined, may not see 500Mbs speeds across the wireless. The 10 series system was an entry level home system with basic features. So may not have been designed to be a hot rod system like the newer generation systems.
Wired speed test should see 500mpbs for sure though.https://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/realistic-speeds-wi-fi-5-and-wi-fi-6
