Orbi RBR20 and Satellites Repeatedly Losing Internet

Hello,

 

I've had the Orbi for about 5 months now. It works well most of the time, except about once every three or four days. At that time it drops the internet, comes back on, drops the internet again, comes back on again, and repeats this cycle five to ten times before stabilizing again.


The system is the AC2200 system. The router is an RBR20 and the two satellites are each an RBS20.

 

When the internet goes out, I get a ping from my alarm and the satellites disconnect and turn magenta for some time after the last connection. Yesterday, for example, the Orbi dropped out of service 8 times between 18:05 and 19:11. Fios was not disrupted, instead it is just the Orbi device that stopped providing Internet.

 

Our ISP is Verizon Fios. We have Ring cameras and an alarm on the next work, as well as Sonos speakers, Nest Protects, and miscellaneous other devices.

 

I have confirmed that I have the latest firmware and adjusted settings as recommended by others in this forum. I have disconnected my Sonos speaker that was hardwired to the router, as well, at the recommendation of someone on the Sonos forum.

 

This is a very annoying problem, and Orbi's lack of useful customer service is further frustrating.

 

has anyone experienced this? If so, are there recommendations for preventing this from happening?

    I pulled both satellites off. The issued continued, though with less frequency. It became about once every day or two. I added both satellites back. The first about a week later and the second about a week after that. The frequency of interruptions did not change with zero, one, or two satellites.

     

    About a week ago, I downloaded the most recent firmware on the router (V2.3.5.30) and satellites. Since then, I have not experienced the interuptions that had been occuring. The network appears to be more stable.

    What Firmware version is currently loaded?
    What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
    Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?

    What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
    What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

     

    What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
    Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

     

    Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

      The firmware is V2.3.5.26.

      The modem is a Verizon modem, it is the Verizon Fios Gateway AC1750 Wi-Fi (G1100).

      The Orbi is operating in Router Mode.

       

      The home is approximately 1,400 SF. The Router "base" is in the basement at the cable box. The first satellite is on the first floor 12 vertical feet up and approximately 30 horizontal feet over. The second satellite is on the second floor. 24' or so above the "base". I have placed the first satellite closer to the base, but had the same issue.

       

      The 2.4 channel is set to 6 and the 5.0 channel is set to any. I have two to four "neighboring" Wi-Fi networks, depending on where I am in the house.

       

      I will try beamforming, MIMO, and WMM. Thank you.
