Orbi RBR40 cannot stream Hulu

So for some reason, it appears the Orbi I have is doing something that prevents hulu from streaming, and I cannot figure out why. I recently signed up a few weeks ago during the black Friday special it will play 3 commercials, then kick out an error message that they are "working on it" and error code is P-Dev313.

I first thought it was the TV, so i reinstalled the app on the Samsung TV. No luck. Tried the 2nd tv, same issue, I cleared caches, nothing changed. I finally try on my laptop, still, the same error message. Neflix and prime are all working fine. So I disconnect my phone from the wifi and access the app via mobile. it works fine.

So now I am thinking there is an issue with my ISP (Frontier). They insist everything looks good. I have 480 MBS upload/downloan, latency is 27. I know it isn't earth shattering numbers, but that is what the router can handle and I never had problems with the speed.

I contact hulu, they trouble shoot the whole merry go around, and nothing works. After I talk with them, I decide to see what happens when I hard wire the tv. When I take the eternet cable out of the Orbi and plug it right into the TV, hulu works fine.

So I don't know what to make of that. But I take out the eternet cable and plug it back into the orbi. I then grab an extra eternet cable and use it to connect the orbi with the TV via hardwire. The error message comes up again now.

I am positive that the orbi is somehow the culpret now since hulu works fine when I use mobile internet or I use a hard wire to bypass the orbi.

does anyone have any ideas? I don't have that orbi armor subscription set up.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Hulu would be the only ones who know what that error code is. Something to ask them about.

      Hello and thank you.

      The Orbi firmware is v2.7.4.24

The ONT "brand" says frontier. I looked around at the labels, and I can't tell who the manufacturer is, but I attached an image of it.

Hulu said that the error message usually means that my speed isn't good enough. but they said with my stats, i should be ok. Hulu support basically had me test the speed, restart the router, and they did some unspecified stuff on their side. then they said they did everything they could do, and told me to call my ISP. My ISP looked into it, and their reasoning is that if every other website like Netflix is working, it is a hulu issue.

but what seems odd is it works when i hardwire directly to the tv, but not when I hardwire from the orbi to the TV.

Thats a lucent I-211M-L ONT. I don't believe it has a built in router by the looks of it.

Possible wireless issue between the TV and the Orbi system if ethernet connected TV is working.

How close is the TV to the RBR in feet?

What channels are you using on the RBR? Try 1 and 40 or 11 or 48. Need to change this on the RBRs web page with a web browser.

        Any RBS deployed?

If TV is working ethernet connected, might leave the cable connected. Ethernet will always out perform wireless.

  • (please excuse my ignorance....)

Is it correct that the Hulu subscription can be used to stream on any device that can run the Hulu app (such as Apple and Android phones/tablets, laptops, computers, etc.)?

What happens when you attempt to stream on devices other than those two televisions?

p.s. It seems sort of cruel that Hulu is able to stream three commercials with no problem but throws an error when the content you want should start.

Thanks for taking the time to perform these experiments.  The behavior is exactly the same?

        • Hulu app connects to Hulu.
        • Credentials are accepted.
        • Can browse to different programs.
        • When a program is selected, commercials play just fine.
        • When a program should begin to stream, error P-Dev313 appears.
