Orbi RBR50 router solid magenta in AP mode Firmware V1.9.12 conected satellite flash 0 or 2
Orbi RBR50 router solid magenta in AP mode Firmware V1.9.12 shows connected satellites between 0 and 2.
So this has been up and running for 30 days now. All of a sudden it has a full Magenta LED light on the router.
It's operating in AP mode with the DHCP off, as it's not being used as the router for the network.
The router I use is a Fortinet 100D. The RBR50 is set to a static IP address. The satellites are assigned an IP by the router as there is no way to assign them a static IP :manfrustrated:
I did find another thread that says to swap out the cable from there OEM flat one to a cat 6 cable. Tried that. I also saw a thread that says use the Internet port not the switch ports. DID that also. Then I tried to downgrade the firmware to the 1.8.0.6 but it looks like you cannot downgrade once you have upgraded.
So here is a bug I have found. When logged into the RBR50 through the web browser it shows on the main page the number of satellites connected as 0 then it will blink and show 2. Then blink and show 0 again. It repeats this cycle forever.
I have also found that the LED will show solid Magenta on the main base unit RBR50 when the LAN is plugged into the switch port. At the time it was plugged into the center port. Swapped out the cables like the other thread suggested, no joy. Then tried moving it over to the Internet port, no joy. Then after 5 minutes I preformed a power cycle on the unit with the cat 6 wire plugged into the Internet port. It ran through the reboot cycle then went Magenta again. Then it went Blue and finally shut off. In the other thread one person claimed it killed his through put speed. I have yet to see any difference.
So why is the latest firmware V1.9.12 not available for download through the Netgear support page? It seems we must use the router to upgrade.
Anyone else see this on there units?

Oh one more thing I noticed the day it happened. I lost connection to one satellite.

Things seem to be working for me now. I did not do anything except reboot a few times and wait it out. I will continue to keep an eye on it.

Interestingly, mine is fine now too. I did nothing - not even a reboot. Thankfuly, it was never more than a cosmetic fault - it didn't seem to hit perfirmance at all

Not sure how I missed this. Just posted the same issue after searching. Looks like this is a firmware issue.

Welcome to the **bleep** show that is firmware 1.9.12... I had issues with this firmware as well and had to roll mine back. Unfortunately, I had to block outbound ports 80/443 TCP from the Orbi and Satellites to prevent them from auto updating. Link to post about my issue and how I blocked auto updates.
I was unable to roll the firmware back. How and what did you do about it?
As of this post the Magenta has not come back yet since I plugged into the internet port. 5-6-17
I swapped to the Internet port when I started the thread.

I have exactly the same issues - but as everything else seems to be working ok I'm tempted just to ignore the fault light and the cycling between 0-1 satellites. Nothing I have tried (Turning off and in, resetting) has made any difference

I upgraded to V1.9.12 over the weekend. I did a full reset afterwards and had to setup the Orbi back in AP mode again. I had to cycle power a couple times before things synched up finally.
I see the same bug with the number of satellites changing from 0 to 1, when 1 satelite is connected.
In AP mode the router will turn magenta when Internet connectivity is lost. AP mode uses the Orbi Internet port to reach the Internet so this port must be connected to a LAN port on your home router. If you move the cable from the Orbi Internet port to the Orbi switch port it should turn magenta, because you've disconnected the path to the Internet.
When in AP mode it should not need to be in the internet port. The unit is not being used as a router just a switch. The unit works just fine with the LAN in the switch port just the LED shows a problem.
Sure hope they fix the issue with the next update.
