Orbi RBR50 slow on Spectrum EN2251

I have been using my RBR50 system for a few years. I just switched back to Spectrum (on 400mbps plan), and am not getting more than 9mbps down on either wired or wireless when connected to the Orbi. When I direct connect my PC to the modem (en2251) I get 470mbps. So the modem is OK.

Over a year ago, on Spectrum with ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 with 50mbps - no issues with using the RBR50.

Past year, on AT&T 1GIG service, of course I never received 1G but no issues. I had to change the router to AP mode to work with ATT router

Today, back on Spectrum with their en2251 modem. Initially I just changed the Orbi from AP mode back to router to connect to the new service. When the speeds were slow, I did a full factory reset of the Orbi -same results. The firmware on the Orbi is v2.7.2.104 and the app indicates that is up to date.

I have fully restarted the mode and Orbi multiple times with no changes.

Of course Spectrum indicates this is my routers issue (have not actually called them yet, just went through their troubleshooter tool). I did try and search for any answers myself first, but not finding anything - seems most slow issues I find are with wireless only.

Anyone have ideas on next steps for troubleshooting?

  • Just some more information

    * Modem and router are right next to each other

    * I have tried a different brand new network cable - both cat 5e

    * Armor was on by default when I reset the router, but I have turned that off and verified traffic meter is not on

    * Speed tests done using speedtest.net, the one in the orbi app, and on the Spectrum site - all show the same on wirelss using phone and PC direct connected to the Orbi router.

    * Network performance is impacted, I am not just going just by speed tests. Streaming netflix/amazon both on wifi and directed connected takes time to load and degraded quality.

What happens if you wire connect a PC or laptop dirctly to the ISP modem with out the RBR online?

Also test with the wired PC connected to the RBR.

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Thanks, I will take a look at all your other items, but quick reponse on the first two questions:

When I direct connect my PC to the modem (en2251) I get 470mbps

When I direct connect my PC to the Orbi I get same 9mbps speed as wireless

We do have close neighbors (but not close like apartments), I can see quite a few other networks out there - but the problem is not just wireless so I don't think that is the issue.
