RBR 20 no internet in AP mode
I have a Netgear C7000V2 router modem and am trying to us an Orbi RBR20 as an access point. I can set it up fine and it works when the Orbi is hardwired to the C7000. As soon as I disconnect the Orbi and put it where I want, I have the ability to connect but I have no internet on the Orbi. Should the Orbi have the same SSID as the C7000 or should I it be named differently?
Or put the orbi router next to the gateway and pickup a few more satellites to spread around the house. Its just the orbi router that has to be wired in. Its satellites can be wireless

Wifi on the C series gateway should be disabled, keeping the Orbi wifi system as the main wifi network source.
How is the RBR connected to the gateway? Should be ethernet connected always to the gateway.

Where in the home are you placing the RBR? Near the gateway modem or at a remote location?

When you say "i disconnect the orbi" from the C7000. It makes me think you don't have it wired to the c7000. While the orbi might be mesh, it still needs an initial wired connection to a modem/gateway/device. Are you actually diconnecting it so its totally wireless?

I want the Orbi to act as a wireless range extender for the router modem. I thought AP mode would allow me to do it. The router modem is limited by where the cable access is for placement and it is in the far back corner of the house. So when I say disconnected it is not connected to the router modem because it doesn't offer any benefit. There is no ethernet in the house. Yes I can do POE to get be able to make a hard wire connection but was trying to avoid it.

Orbi systems can't technically extend wifi signals from the host like actual WiFI extenders with a wireless connected. All Orbi systems require a ethernet connection, router or AP mode. They don't have any kind of bridge or wireless extender abilities.
You can try some power line adapters if the home is on same circuit and see if this helps with using the Orbi in AP mode.

The Orbi is in a remote location. The gateway is in the back corner of the house and cannot be put central in the house. Wifi is weak in many areas so I am trying to boost reception to these areas. I wanted to use the Orbi as a range extender.

Orbi would need to be wire connected.
Try Power Line adapters
or forgo orbi and get you a actual WIFI range extender, NGs EX or EAX series extenders.
