RBR20 + RBS20 Differing Speeds

So I’ve had an RBR20 mesh system with RBS20 satelite for many years. I’ve recently had a new router through Virgin for the 1GBPS Volt service. Since having this, the RBR20 router is producing rubbish speeds. The RBS20 however is giving speeds I’d expect - the satellite is connected via Ethernet. Any ideas please?

What "rubbish" speeds are you getting?

You'll never see anything near 900Mpbs over 5Ghz AX on the Orbi system. Depending on your wireless clients, they may top out at around 300-500Mpbs on the down. Ethernet connected PCs should see near 900mpbs thru the RBR.

Hi. I’m talking sub 50mbps - really bad speeds. Whereas I get around 500mbps upstairs connected to the satelite?

    Hello alexjones95 ,

    Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

I understand that you are experiencing less-than-optimal speeds on your RBR20. However, you are able to get the expected speeds on your RBS20. This behavior usually occurs when the satellite is located too close to the RBR20. To verify please connect your PC of choice to the LAN ethernet port on the back of your router, then test your network speed. If you receive the expected network speeds please change the location of your Orbi satellite. Additionally, please ensure your Orbi Mesh system is on the most current released firmware v2.7.4.24.
