RBR20 need a addition

Hello,

I have a RBR20 base and one remote station.   I need to add another remote station.  I see that these RBR20 models are no longer sold.   Is there a compatible unit I can buy to add on to my existing equipment?

  • Hi

Can you please tell me which one to buy, I am overwhelmed by the choices!   Amazon link would be ideal, and low cost!

    (RBR20 extender).

This Netgear site shows the satellites that are compatible with the existing router:

    https://kb.netgear.com/000065169/Which-Orbi-routers-and-satellites-are-compatible?article=000065169

You are correct.  The original Orbi products are "long in the tooth".  Some observations:

    • eBay often has such products. (RBS20, RBS40, RBS50)
    • It is often less costly to purchase a complete set (router and two satellites) than to purchase a single satellite.  See, for example: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Tri-band-Extender-replacement-satellites/dp/B0BSXRNTX1/ref=sr_1_3?crid=5U9RN9N57UMV&keywords=netgear+rbs20&qid=1692766202&sprefix=netgear+rbs20%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-3
    • The original Orbi products are now seven years old and do not support WiFi6, which is a common feature of modern cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc.  The cost to install a completely new WiFi6 system may not be much more than finding a single satellite compatible with the original Orbi.
    • Depending on the specific need, perhaps a WiFi "extender" would solve the immediate problem at much lower cost.  True satellites feature seamless roaming between units.  If the need is to provide WiFi to devices which do not move (TVs, cameras, speakers, garage door openers, etc.) then a WiFi extender may be all you need at this time.

Yes I just need an extender for a tv and room as my incoming modem got relocated to another room due to other circumstances.   I know it is 5 years old but I have no other reason to upgrade.

I don't want to buy used from eBay or anywhere else in case they are hacked and contain spyware or something, maybe I am paranoid!

If you know the least expensive way for me to meet my need please share otherwise I will be doing a few amazon searches but it seems more than I expected.   I was hoping for $50 or less.

For the TV, I have been impressed with the TP-Link RE220 ($20 on Amazon)

        https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N1WW638/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

"and room" is a bit ambiguous.  Remember the key difference between "WiFi extenders" and "true satellites" is the ability for a device to roam seamlessly between access points.  Will not happen with an extender.  If someone carries a mobile device into that room, the signal may drop and performance become very poor. The "fix" is to disable WiFi and then enable WiFi again. (5 seconds).

I purchased a used RBR50 on eBay as a spare, and have been very happy with it.  With the Orbi, doing a Factory Reset on the device completely "wipes out" anything that may have been loaded.
