RBR50 and Apple Airport

I have a FiOS quantum gateway, and I use it with an apple airport system. I have multiple airports around my home which is quite large and rambling. I have never been able to get complete coverage. I just purchased the Orbi system and want to know if I can keep using the Apple Devices with that since I have paid a fortune for them, and some are hooked up to my stereo, printers and other devices. My Fios app says I have 42 devices. Do I have to reset each one to work on the Orbi network ?

  • You can keep using the Apple devices. As far as Airports, you would be replacing any of the airports with the Orbi system thus the Airports would not be needed.

If you set up the Orbi wifi for same SSID name and PW your currently using, your devices should connect. Some may need to be rebooted or may have to re-enter the SSID name and PW however.

Set WPA2 and AES only on the Orbi.

    Modem Combo Units:
    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
    3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

You can continue using the Apple Airports as wired AP's to Orbi. I don't think you can use them in any other configuration.

I had an Airport Time Capsule which I'm now using as a hard disk for the backups (Time Machine) of the MacBooks at home, by connecting it wired to Orbi and set it in AP mode with no wireless capability so that it will not interfere with Orbi's radio.
