RBR50 Hardwire satellite
I have an Orbi RBR50 router with an an Orbi52 Harman/Kardon speaker satellite. I ran a Cat5e Ethernet cable between the two to have the satellite hardwired to the RBR50 router. My ISP is Verizon Fios internet only. No TV. No phone. No bundle of any kind. App version is 2.6.4.13. Firmware version is V2.5.1.16.
i can not get the Connection Type to switch from 5G to Hardwired. I have read the article regarding setting up the “backhaul” connections, but nothing has worked. The RBR50 router is bridged to the Verizon Quantum modem/router in AP mode. It seems, according to the articles I’ve read, that this change over should be a simple plug & play with a router reboot. Do I need to do a factory reset and reinstall?
- If the RBS40V shows connected you have completed the setup. Now you are ready to setup the Alexa mode.
I would ignore the status if the satellite shows good and is working, as should. The GUI and app can report wrong.

I am assuming you are referring to the RBS40V satellite. First make sure it is not in extender mode.
Then factory reset it, pair it to the router, place it where you want it and plug it in. That's all you need to do. The app and GUI may show wireless 5G until you Re-Boot the system, but be assured it is hardwired.
These days you can't totally trust what you see in the App and GUI. I find missing devices, wired saying wireless and reversed.
- LEWB71AspirantThanks. I’ll give that a try.

Make sure the LAN cable is of good quality and is know working cable. CAT6 is recommended.
Its recommended to first wirelessly sync the RBS to the RBR. Once this is done, then connect the LAN cable in between the RBS and RBR.
Do you have a LAN switch in between the RBR and RBS by chance?
- LEWB71AspirantThe Cat5e is brand new. I checked out the cable to make sure the connectors were wired correctly. There is no internet switch or hub being utilized.

I found that holding in the RBS40V power button and sync button simultaneously is the method to change the RBS40V mode from Extender to Satellite mode. So I did a factory reset of the RBS40V (hold in the reset button until it pulses Amber). After the RBS40V restarted it automatically defaults to Extender mode. I changed the mode back to Satellite. To where the light ring on top pulses white and then becomes solid white. But it only stays white for a second then becomes blue. I think this means it’s back in Extender mode. When I then do a sync it shows back up on the Orbi app as a 5G connection. I have to initially place the RBS40V close to the RBR50 so it will recognize it. I’ve actually gotten gotten it to work and stay as a wired connection. But then, when I unplug it and move it where I want it, it of course, reboots and goes right back into a 5G connection. I have done this so many times I’ve lost count.
During the reset process it says something to the effect “Orbi is ready to sync. Follow the instructions from the Orbi app”. I’m not sure this needs to be done. The Satellite already shows up on the network map before I do that. But when I have followed those instructions that’s when it reverts to the 5G connection.
Any further help in solving this issue is greatly appreciated.
