RBR50 Router

my router is set up to use Ethernet cable or fitting for "internet port"

my new home uses coax cable hookups...is there an adapter that enables use of ethernet to coax hookup?

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) deliver connections using a variety of technologies:

    • Traditional Cable TV systems, use a part of the frequency spectrum to provide internet service.  This requires a "Cable Modem" to provide the transition from cable to Ethernet.  Most of the time, ISPs provide a cable modem as part of the installation (and charge a monthly fee).  Customers often purchase their own cable modem (and assume the responsibility of fixing or replacing it if it breaks) in order to avoid the monthly fee. An RBR50 router uses an Ethernet cable to connect to the cable modem.
    • Fiber Systems typically provide an Optical Network Termination (ONT) which serves the same purpose.
    • Phone company  DSL systems piggyback the internet connection over their telephone wires and use a DSL modem, plus frequency filters on the 'real' phone lines.

If you have coax, you need a cable modem. My guess is the previous occupant replaced the ISP cable modem with their own and then took it with them.  I would call the ISP and ask what my options are:

    • What will they change to provide a cable modem?
    • What cable modems are compatible with their system should I choose to install my own.
(often this information can be found on the ISP web site)

No, Coax is one wire conducting. Ethernet is 8 wire conducting.

    No.

    Visit your ISPs website.

Look at what hardware it supplies when people sign up for its service.

Most ISPs will deliver a modem or modem/router

If you do not want to use, and pay for, the ISP's equipment, look for a list of modems that are compatible with its network.
