RBR50 slows to a crawl till I reboot
Firmware is current V2.7.4.24
In the last few days, I thought my internet provider was slowing down, but I have narrowed it to the RBR50 The problem clears after a reboot.
What happens is that the unit slows to a crawl where it will take 30 seconds to a minute to respond to clicks on a browser. Loading new pages will take several minutes if at all. It seems to be happening after a day, because I notice it recurs about mid morning. A reboot will return my speed to 72mbps download. I have not had to do this before, except when I was having trouble with my ISP and had to refresh the connection.
It is like the router is clogged up and needs a flush.
Any ideas? A dying router?
WOW, well thank you to all. I finally got it working but it was so weird how I did it.
I first had to go to manual update, then select a satellite (even though it said no updates were available) and then go back to Online update and login and upload the file and then run the firmware update. I had to do that for each satellite in turn and then the router .
Doesn't make sense but finally everything is up to date.

Does every device connected to the Orbi appear to slow?
Firmware v2.7.5.4 was released in Feb 2023. It is a mystery why the Firmware Update process does not report that it is available. You can download files for the router and satellites from the Netgear support site and manually install them. (satellites first, router last)

So, when I try to manually update the software to on the RBS50 satellites to version 7.5.4, I get this message:
This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product.
It isn't just my laptop that slows, but the Roku tv also slows to 1mbps. A reboot of the router returns it to normal.
I don't see an option to update the RBR50, as it says the version is current.
This is a definite problem with Netgear's firmware management system. Even though Netgear posted this new firmware on the support web site in Feb, 2023, the Firmware Update software does not find it. The only way to load firmware on the router and satellites is to
- Download the zip files from the web site.
- Extract the *.img file for router and satellite from the zip files
- Navigate to the Firmware Update page of the web interface
- Select the Manual Update Tab.
- On the part of the page "below the line", check the box for one satellite and then select Update. Follow the directions to browse to the location of the satellite *.img file.
- After doing the satellites, select the section "above the line" to update the router firmware.
Another question is "how long has this system been in operation?"
Perhaps so much "junk" has accumulated that it might be worth doing a Factory Reset if the firmware update process does not help.
Before that, can you please look at the Advanced Tab, Security Menu, Access Control. There are three tables where the router keeps a record of every device that has ever been connected to the router. If these tables get REALLY large, it might be a good idea to erase the entries for
- Devices which have been Blocked but are not currently connected
- Devices which have been Allowed but are not currently connected
Then restart the router.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

the ISP is a RF receiver antenna and it has a power brick that goes directly to the LAN port on the Orbi. I have recently tested the Ethernet cables and they're good. Problem just started happening this week.
