How do I get update if app is having trouble detecting if new update is available. I checked internet and there is an update available.Can I download update to my phone and send to modem using app?

Don't worry about FW updates. NG will push critical updates to you automatically.

If you want too, you can use a PC or laptop to download FW updates. Download the FW updates from here:
https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBK50.aspx#download

Use a web browser to apply the FW udpate to the RBR.
