Setup problem with Orbi RBK23 on a fibre system with PPPoE
In UK! Bought an Orbi RBK23 AC2200 tri-band router & 2 satellites from amazon. We have fibre internet to the house that also delivers phone. It’s from a small company called See The Light. They installed an Optical Network Terminal (think cable modem with phone added) that you connect the phone system too and then also has LAN sockets. Our house has LAN cables in the house, so in the original install the ONT was in a cupboard under the stairs which then connected to a patch panel of sorts via a switch then through to the lounge then to another switch then the router.
The ISP uses PPPoE but does NOT use an isp username or password.
I can’t set up the Orbi to get a internet connection.
Auto setup doesn’t work.
Manual advanced setup doesn’t work - either with standard DNS setup or with PPPoE setup - with username/password fields either left blank or with any random word entered. Was on the phone to netgear tech support for over an hour. He was stumped. Thought the router was defective so I returned it and got a new one and the same issues.
Just checked with see the light and they assure me it’s perfectly feasible to connect another router.
I also tried connecting the router directly into the ONT I’m case all my LAN setup was the problem.
Unless I’m missing something it’s the Orbi that’s a kid of rubbish and I will have to buy something else and hope that connects more easily.

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? Built in router here by chance? If so, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
