Trying to use rbk20 WiFi system to get fast internet in garden office. Failing miserably..help!

So I have a garden office at the end of the garden that I’m desperate to get a quick connection. I have set up the rbk20 router to my virgin smart hub 3 in modem mode. Everything seems to be working ok but the placement of the satellite is an issue. I have tried to place it at the end of the house closest to the garden office. This is about 5 m from the router. Signal isn’t strong enough for the garden room and getting 5mbs speeds there. My internet speed at the router is 350 mbps by the way.
Then I’ve tried to move the router closer to the side of side of the house where the office is...and place the satellite in the garden office. Still really slow speeds 10 mbs. It’s also connecting via 2.5khz with this method.
I’m pulling my hair out with this...I have tried a WiFi booster before purchasing the Orbi which was actually quicker (although not quick enough).
Do I need an add on unit? Outdoor unit?
Netgear are no help. I’ve even tried to split the 2.5ghz & 5ghz signals so I could force a quicker 5ghz connection. No luck.
Thanks in advance

  • What is your house materials made of? certain materials block wifi signals like concrete, brick, adobe, plaster lathe, foil lined insulation

    How large is your house?
Does your garden office have a power drop ran from your house? Have you ever tried a powerline adapter?

    What firmware are you on?

How far from the router is the satellite?

      Hi thanks for the reply.
The router and satellite now have clear line of site between 2 windows approx 15metres apart.
Power for the office is from the house and have already tried a power line WiFi booster but my speeds were still very slow.
      Firmware is v2.3.5.26...latest I believe.
Is having issue a with the satellite disconnecting intermittently.

So what is your house materials. Line of sight doesn't tell me where everything is or necessarily explain the issue. You could have the router "in line of site" but far away from the window so only a small part of the spectrum is making it through your house window and then the garden window. This would cause intermittent connection/drops/slowed speeds.

When the orbi's default to 2.4ghz is usually means the 5ghz can't connect at all. This occurs either due to distance, wireless interference, or material interference.
