Fibre Networking - POE - hyperfibre - to upgrade or not
Hi,
We have a home set up with copper to fibre internet connection.
We have POE to the rooms in the house via a Netgear Prosafe GS110TP and Unify wireless router system.
We have ethernet speed at 750-1000 mbs and upload 100-300 mbps with varying wifi speeds dependent on device - 2016 mac book pro 300mbs down 100mbps up.
We have been offered fibre 1Gbps or hyper fibre 8Gbps at a similar price.
We work from home with video conferencing and both my children are gamers / streamers (Their main concern is ping!)
Is there a noticeable advantage in changing to fibre and what upgrades would be needed?
What would people suggest?
Thank you

If you've already got gigabit (ish) download speeds and 100mbps + upload, you probably won't see much difference to 8gig.
Reason why is most devices are gigabit any can't saturate anymore than those speeds anyway.
And gaming/streaming (even in 4K) only needs 25-50mbps per stream.
You might seem some slightly lower ping but we're not talking night and day difference.
The money to switch to 8gig (routers/switches/cost for the service) would probably be better put to hardwiring in their gaming/streaming rigs.
Are you finding that you saturate a gigabit connection?
- Thanks - I had similar thoughts - we had hard wiring and wifi upgrade before Covid and the boys plugged in their gaming computers! We have poor phone reception and I wanted to run my mobile over wifi at home too.
What router/satellites do you have?
What size is your home and what are the interior walls made of?
