Need new modem
Currently using fiber optic (UTOPIA here in SLC.) Currently I have an older Netgear N750 wireless modem/router and a new Google Home wireless router. The internet up/down is 86/91 Mbps, Avg ping is 31ms. Google only says everything is Great! Can this be improved? Or is this actually good? My daughter says here pings are "slow." We think the old modem is the bottle neck, and if I'm right, which happens sometimes, I think I need a new modem without the wireless feature. Or should I be happy? Any recommendations?

The other shoe: My daughter is online to Shanghai every night and while her pings are usually around 100ms, occasionally they start spiking to 400ms and up/down speeds drop to the 20 Mbps range, and she starts losing her connection. She says this has started this week, for the last six months everything has been lickity split.
Is it our equipment? Is it the connection to China?
