Tether mr1100 to phone for cellular data

I just bought a nighthawk M1 gigabit LTE Mobile router. I have tried tethering to my pixel 7a, with T-Mobile as my ISP, with both the USB type c and type a. I am unable to get the router to verify any type of connection.
I would like to be able to use the USB cord that came with the device to connect USB port a to the phone, so type c can be used to continually charge the router, and use the phone's cellular data, instead of purchasing a separate SIM card and data plan from T-Mobile. Any help?

  • If you want to offload data for your hotspot, you can do it via WiFi on your mobile phone. Put your phone in hotspot mode, let the netgear find your phone hotspot SSID. You can also offload data input from a LAN cable (just as a side note). You can only use the USB port for tethering FROM the netgear device using the SIM data, but not the other way around. That is how I remember it. Read the manual too. It is all outlined in there

Is there a more detailed manual than the one that came with it? There isn't much to it, like not giving description of use for each port. Not no I don't want to use phone as Wi-Fi hotspot, that is how my last phone overheated.

if you don't want to do it that way, there is not much that you can do for the hardware that you have. I understand that is not the most ideal way to do that. The netgear mobile hotspot was designed primarily to pull data off of the SIM card. These data offloading methods are sort of secondary "nice to have" abilities that netgear added.

  • To tether your Netgear MR1100 to your phone for cellular data

    1. Connect the MR1100 to your phone via USB.
    2. Enable USB Tethering in the MR1100 admin settings at 192.168.1.1.
    3. Turn on USB Tethering in your phone's settings (Android: Settings > Hotspot & Tethering; iPhone: automatic).

Hostever. I have done all this. This issue I believe, but it's not mentioned anywhere is trying to use the data cord provided has one end only for usb-c so that goes into the phone, where the other end is plugged into the type A USB port on the router. None of the information mentions if you have to tether just from usb-c or Ethernet.
