Cheapest Managed Switch with Telnet
Hello all, I've done a bit of research and keep going in circles. I'm not much of a network admin but I have a simple need. I have created a cloud based HDMI / Video / TV control system that requires a managed switch to control the video distribution and I'd like to start testing it with budget hardware, initially I'm looking for the cheapest gigabit switch that has CLI / Telnet. Any suggestions? I don't initially care about the number of ports but a stackable / cascading option would be nice but not required. My goal is to write "drivers" or "modules" for such hardware so that some of my budget clients will have a low cost to entry.

Thank you for your message. If you are trying to procure the least expensive switch with CLI/Telnet/SSH for development, you may want to start with the M4100-D12G (GSM5212-100NES ordering SKU number in US and Europe)

Of course the M4300’s are stackable and the platform of choice for all our Pro AV installations. But the M4100’s are standalone (cascading possible) and offer the same CLI/Telnet/SSH interface. Maybe you can practise your drivers based on this one if your budget is lower than the M4300 larger models.
As a disclosure, the M4100’s are not pre-configured as the M4300’s so for AVoIP you must configure IGMP Snooping, Querier and Fast Leave for instance for video. And Trust DSCP for audio. Please let us know how it goes, you can start on the M4300’s that’s better, if you must start on the M4100 for your development phase we’ll help you as well.
