GS324TP S350 Basic VLAN Setup Not Working

Hello everyone. I am trying to configure a simple VLAN on a GS324TP S350. I have tried setups from Netgear KB and other sources. Due to varying information, I have tried the following configurations and cannot get the VLAN to function in a way that provides access from an endpoint to the switch, router, or WAN after the configuration is saved. All devices show connectivity prior to these changes with all switch ports on the default VLAN 1. Any help would be much appreciated.

Network Architecture: Endpoint > Switch > Router > WAN
Uplink from switch to router is on port 1
Test VLAN ID 200

Config 1:

VLAN 200 (test)
Added port 13 (U) to VLAN 200
Removed port 13 from default VLAN 1
All default VLAN 1 ports (U)
Updated port 13 PVID to VLAN ID 200
Release and renew IP
Cannot renew errors out
Ping to switch fails, general failure

Config 2:

Added uplink port 1 (T) to VLAN 200
All else same as Config 1
Release and renew IP
Cannot renew errors out
Ping to switch fails, general failure

Config 3:

Changed uplink port 1 from (U) to (T) on default VLAN 1
All else same as Config 2
Release and renew IP
Cannot renew errors out
Ping to switch fails, general failure
Also breaks uplink port and must switch uplink to new port

Where would we be without trial and error? Nonetheless, your rant inspired me to review the router. In configuring the VLAN subnet on the router interface, setting up the DHCP, the DNS forwarding, and other rules, I made some errors. Configured and all is working. Thanks for the nudge; so far as it was intentional or not.

  • What exactly do you want to achieve here? We se two ports, sometimes tagged, sometimes untagged for the VLAN 200, and you don't come to the grounds....

One question which hits my eyes is that the switch does for whatever reason get no more workable IP address - or the you are testing from ports configured for a VLAN different from the management VLAN. This is where the admin IP exists.

Is there a DHCP server on the management subnet for this VLAN 200 for example?

Is the switch configured for the management VLAN 200?

How do you expect to run testing - and more specifically the IP routing?

Key is the lack of design. Trial-and-error won't bring you forward on your learning curve. This is not a question of the various information available!
