I want to setup Multi Gig network

I want to do the following for my some video editting:

1st option)

Laptop --> 5 Gbps RJ45 LAN adapter --> Switch's 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps RJ45 port --> Switch --> Switch's two 2,5 Gbps RJ45 ports --> connect to both NAS 2.5 Gbps ports and use port trunking on these ports.

Is there such Netgear switch+ that has two 10G RJ45 ports and at least 2 2x2.5Gbps ports that would support link aggregation?

2nd option)

Laptop --> 5 Gbps RJ45 LAN adapter --> Switch's 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps RJ45 port --> Switch --> Switch's 5 Gbps RJ45  ports --> connect to NAS 5 Gbps port (with USB 5Gbps LAN adapter) and use some unmanaged (or managed, because it does not matter) 5/10Gbps Netgear switch. Would you recommend such setup? What Netgear switch would you recommend?

3rd option) Try to go for max and make a 10 Gbps network:

Laptop --> 10 Gbps LAN adapter (I think my Surface 7 will not support that, but Surface 9 will) --> 10 Gbps port --> Switch --> Switch's 10 Gbps ports --> connect to NAS 10 Gbps R ports --> and have SSD disk there and use some unmanaged (or managed, because it does not matter) 10Gbps Netgear switch that has at least 2 10Gbps RJ45 ports.

Choosing LAN adapter is also important - I would go for 10Gbps LAN adapter, but they are currently too expensive and hardly available in my country and I also think my USB Type-C port supports max 5Gbps currently. Any recomendations becasue I plan to use either USB or USB Type-C 5Gbps adapters. Will they suport Wake-on-LAN function?

  • Netgear has a large offering for 10G/MultiGig switches in various port combinations, with or without PoE/PoE+/PoE++ -> https://www.netgear.com/business/wired/switches/multi-gig/

When it comes to any kind of USB MultiGig devices Thunderbolt 2/3/4 docking stations, several vendors don't fully support WoL from any random power level. The complete chain needs the related software/firmware/driver support. Some vendors exclude Windows 11 support because of the chipset makers and driver developers are note ready, too. Keep in mind a 10G Thunderbolt  or MultiGig  USB-C is much more than just yet another direct connected network adapter.

Link aggregation does not magically multiply the network by the number of links for any situation. Typically, dedicated MAC addresses are in the play on the individual network adapters an links. Link aggregation is a good advise to have enough bandwidth for multiple devices. often the possible speed from one device will be limited to the link speed of an individual LAG member.

Nothing of this is Netgear related or specific btw.
