Loop Detection using SNMP - Netgear Manage Switch M4100-26G-POE

Hi,

I have Netgear switch and I want to monitor it through Nagios. As of now using 'snmpwalk' command I have setup monitoring for uptime and description about Switch. Now I want to detect if there is any loop on any port of my switch. I can see the loop on port 0/17 (Monitoring -> Logs -> Trap Logs) in Trap logs.

I want to use SNMP to find out if there is any loop on any port including the one mentioned above and send the email alert. I am new to switches and don't know how to do it. While searching for the nagios plugin to perform this task, I found following plugin:

https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Addons/Active-Checks/check_procurve_loop/details

I thought of using this script to do job for me but I dont know what to provide in this line after $host and how to find it for my switch:

snmpwalk -v 2c -O vqe -c $community $host 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.5.1.12.1.5.2.1.1.2 2>&1

Can someone please guide me on this.

Thanks.

    vndpundir2007,

    Welcome to our community! :)

You may need to use specific OID for Loop detection in order for you to monitor it. Here is the latest MIB file for the latest firmware.
