M4300-8X8F Latest firmware 12.0.7.15 cause fan light to go to amber

I've already filed a case on this, but was curious if anyone else had seen this issue.

Purchased new M4300-8X8F, and wanted to upgrade firmware from 12.0.6.7 to 12.0.7.15. After uploading and booting to new image I saw where fan light wasn't going green, but staying amber. When I booted to the older firmware the light would go green again. Support tested this in their lab and comfirmed as issue.

  • Check if your fans spin on firmware < 12.0.7.15, if so everything is quite OK. Apparently* that is due to a change in 12.0.7.15 that allows the  silent operation of the M4300-8X8F until a certain temperature is reached.

However the fan LED indicators don't consider that change yet and and thus light up amber (falsely indicating a fan fault). LaurentMa explains the behaviour in this thread here: Feature request : M4300-8X8F - Allow force fans on (quiet mode or rack mode)

    * Since I don't operate any M4300-8X8F for an actualy check, but the slightly bigger -12X12F
