m4300 PTPv2 supported profiles

Hi All,

Which PTPv2 profiles are supported as part of the E2E Transparent clock feature?

Meaning what are the criteria to identify PTP SYNC and Delay_Req packets which are aligeble for 1-step residence time correction?

Is PTP over Ethernet (as described in IEEE1588 annex F) supported?

which ethernet MAC addresses are supported? 01-1B-19-00-00-00? 01-80-C2-00-00-0E? others?

Is PTP over UDP/IPv4 (as described in IEEE1588 annex C) supported?

which IPv4 addresses are supported?

Kind regards

Elad

  • Hi Elad6L

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. You will find some more requirements (and restrictions) in the M4300 datasheet page 10 (features highlights) and then page 46 (tech specs).

PTPv2 TC E2E is supported on M4300 select models  as defined in IEEE 1588 standard.

PTPv2 TC is updated for following message PTP events:

    1. SYNC
    2. Delay_Req
    3. Pdelay_Req
    4. Pdelay_Resp

    Further  comments in your questions:

    1. Which PTPv2 profiles are supported as part of the E2E Transparent clock feature?

    IEEE 1588 standard

    1. Meaning what are the criteria to identify PTP SYNC and Delay_Req packets which are eligible for 1-step residence time correction?

M4300 always does 1-step residence time correction. PTP message type is carried in the PTP header packet.

    1. Is PTP over Ethernet (as described in IEEE1588 annex F) supported?

Yes, ether type 0x88F7 is used to identify PTP packet.

    1. Which ethernet MAC addresses are supported? 01-1B-19-00-00-00? 01-80-C2-00-00-0E? others?

Based on attached PIC (please open the attached file, Question 4), any MAC will do since PTP packet is identified by ethertype 0x88F7

    1. Is PTP over UDP/IPv4 (as described in IEEE1588 annex C) supported?

    Yes

    1. which IPv4 addresses are supported?

    224.0.1.129

(please open the attached file, Question 6)

    I hope this helps,

    Regards
