M4300 switches, How to prevent a device with duplicate IP of gateway on the network ?

Is there a way to prevent anyone connecting into the switch with the same IP as the Firewall Gateway?  for example if the gateway firewall Lan IP is 192.168.50.1   and a user comes along with a laptop and plugs into the same switch with IP 192.168.50.1.   What are the steps to do that ?

Is that a work laptop? if it is, the easiest way is to have the IP changed to DHCP or if needs a static IP then assign a different IP or reserve a different IP on the Firewall. Also, do you have VLANs configured on your switch? If you allow personal devices to connect to your Network, you may want to take advantage of it. After all, they shouldn't be using IP ranges assigned to your Firewall or servers.

It would be best to tell us more about how your Network is setup so other users will be able to help out.

No its not work laptop.   Basically we are trying to prevent anyone from Self-Assigning themselves the gateway IP of the firewall.  So if someone comes in with a laptop, connects to the switch with the SAME IP as the GATEWAY, than the switch should KNOW that the TRUE gateway IP is on Port 5  instead of the laptop port 20.  Its more to do with security than dhcp in my opinion.   thoughts?
