m4300 top of rack HA
I am setting up a HA top of rack with 2 m4300 series switches. The first m4300 was already in production and now i am slowly adding in the second for redundancy. I have the first switch with priority 12 and the second with priority 10, 2 ports in stack mode and the stack now shows as expected with my primary switch as the master and my secondary as the standby. now i want to start making connections to the second switch and im a little uncertain how to accomplish this without causing a network loop. As i connect my fiber trunks from my second Top of rack HA switch (from my bigger switches to match same config as my stack master m4300) do i need to enable STP? ALL my SFP ports on the stack master run fiber trunks to switches across the building. Also port 13 on switch 1 goes to a firewall. if i run port 13 on second switch to a second port on that firewall for redundancy what should i enable on my m4300 to accomplish this? STP or LAG?

Hi quick6,
Once you have your stack configured, the stack works as one unique unit. So, the master takes over the role of all management tasks.
The best way would be to configure a LAG at the far-end (devices that you connect to the M4300 stack), and then configure a LAG on the M4300 stack.
Once you have the LAG configured, you can then connect both cables (Fibre/copper), and, in case one goes down, the other link will remain up, and the secondary unit will take over as Master.
Ideally you also want your firewall to be configured with a LAG, so that in case one goes down, there is still the uplink out to the internet. đ.
If devices do not support LAGs, you can utilize STP, and have it block off a redundant port, but ideally, you should utilize LAGs where possible.
