If you have access to the serial console I suggest stopping at the the boot loader and then try booting into the backup image. Once you have stopped the regular boot process and have entered the boot menu you should be able to boot the backup image (which hopefully doesn't contain 10.x) you can set the default boot image to be the backup image and then update your previous default image back to 8.0.3.49.
The menu is bit different between different models, there are always some similarities, hence the link for the M4100 series: https://kb.netgear.com/15115/M4100-Boot-Menu
If for any reason you have ended up with 10.x on both images, you might have to resort to XMODEM, though possibly not needed (I hope so).
