Hi, I need some help on understanding how the next hop ip address works on mulitple switches. I have; Router on 10.0.0.1 (vlan 10) Netgear switch 1 (10.0.0.2) connected on port 1. vlan 10 set...

Welcome to the community!
Yes, you are correct!
For the next hop ip address as 10.0.0.0, 255.255.255.0, next hop ip address 10.0.0.2. we called it 'directly connected route', it mean all L2 traffic(same subnet 10.0.0.0/24) will forwarding from VLAN10 member port(based on MAC address table);
For Default route 0.0.0.0 next hop ip address 10.0.0.1, we called it 'default static route', it mean all L3 traffic(different subnet with 10.0.0.0/24) will forwarding to the next hop(10.0.0.1);
But I'm sorry not catch your problem, could you please describe more detailed for PC client not reachable problem?
Hope it helps!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I think i get vlan routing and next hop now. My problem is i can`t connect to the management page of a phone that is on the second switch when i`m connected to the first switch. I can ping the phone but not connect unless i connect my laptop to the second switch.
Thanks

All devices play in the 10.0.0.0/24 (255.255.255.0) subnet on this VLAN 10?
Double check the Voice VLAN feature does not play against your intentions, e.g. putting the traffic from a phone into a different VLAN than what you think.

It looks like i have other issues as on our router i can see unknown network segment for that ip address. I`ll restart our router as i made a few changes recently which may solve my problems.

Veto! Neither your router nor the inter VLAN routing is involved for talking on the VLAN ID 10 - which does (or should) represent a flat L2 network, no routing at all - on one or over multiple switches. The unknown network segment is an issue, but not for this connection.

You mean if PC and Phone connect to different switch, then ping is ok, bug cannot login management page of phone, right?
May I ask which protocal used when you login management page of phone? Web GUI with HTTP or HTTPs? or another special tool?
According to current behavior, ping phone IP is success, that's mean communicate between PC and Phone success. So could you please try to capture packet on PC and the Second Switch port connect to Phone(you can mirror this port packet)? Then we can analysis further more with these capture files.

Hi,
Yes, if PC and Phone connect to different switch, then ping is ok, but cannot login management page of phone. The management page of the phone is using http. I have been out for a few days but will try and mirror the port on Tuesday to capture some logs.
