Port Rate Control in Kbps

Consider implementing a software bridge, e.g based on iptables, where you can netem and the like:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root netem rate 56kbit
No way on a real-world low-cost switch, which requires have different capabilities.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. It appears Netgear does not allow for this capability without complex command line activity and software - which is not something I can do for this.

Not talking of any physical Netgear (or other brand) switch - much more, I have a small Linux system in mind 8-)
Rate limits on physical switches massively depend on the hardware capabilities. Typically, one can set % numbers, typically in steps of about 5%. Background: Switches are made for fast frame forwarding, not for laboratory type applications - counting frames is a switch competency, not throttling the way you expect.
