Prosafe GS724TPS - does it support ethernet backhaul

Firstly, I've no idea if this is a managed switch or not, so I may not have posted this query in the correct section.

Last year, I purchaed a TP-Link wifi mesh system (M9) and attempted to connect it to my ethernet network, I eventually managed to get it working but not reliabily. I had a network loop amongst other issues and ended upjust switching off the switch, disconnected it from all devices and just rely on wifi.

I expect to upgrade to fibre to the premises soon so want to revisit this issue. I read on the TP-Link support that not all switches support ethernet backhaul so I wonder if the Prosafe GS724TPS does? I tried searching for information but didn't find any.

BTW - the wifi on the router is switched off and the only wired connection to it is the master Deco M9. I also connected the second ethernet port of this M9 to the switch.

Thanks

  • Very unlikely a generic smart switch can handle this.

Appears TP Link is very restrictive on what can be configured and connected - https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1794/

Few references are talking of IEEE 1905.1 support - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1905  honestly, this does explain why other community members struggled with some MoCA mix and match configuration failed on other experiments. Said that, most normal smart switches won't handle such set-up and configs.

The answer for this configuration config must come from TP Link, the makers of these Deko Mesh systems. Netgear is unlikely willing and can't provide an answer.
