ProSafe M4100-50G-POE+ and Calix Optical SFPs
With this being a commerical switch I was surprised when the switch was unable to give any operating status while using different Calix SFP's. Using the 'show fiber-ports optics-info all' shows the S...

These are not GPON SFP's. They are Calix part numbers 100-01668 and 100-01669.

Hi DanielWilliams
According to this listing, these are 1GE SFP, Single Mode Fiber, Bi-Directional/BIDI (Single Fiber), "Upstream" and "Downsteam" 20Km transceivers. At first glance you are right, there should be no obvious reason why our M4100 Managed Switch series can't accept these. We have successfully tested and validated other BIDI 1G modules from other major brands in the past. I trust you are correctly interconnecting upstream and downstream transceivers.
We need to troubleshoot this pair of SFPs. When observing the issue, please can you export the Tech Support file out of M4100-50G-POE+ switch and send it to us (for instance to me using MP). This file will provide our Tech Support and Engineering teams enough preliminary information on the issue.
First, please log in to the command line interface of the switch, and from enable mode, run the command: show tech-support. When done, you can proceed with the CLI method or the Web GUI method below.
Using CLI, you can use the COPY command described in M4100 CLI manual on page 371, the file to copy is <<nvram:tech-support>>.
Using the Web GUI, you can upload the Techsupport file by selecting Select Maintenance > Upload > HTTP File Upload for instance, as described in M4100 WEB manual on page 411.

Hi Dan
Your files were well received. Tech Support and Engineering organizations are now working on it. We will provide update as soon as possible. Right now we see some port shutdown (interface 0/50 from one switch) and associated logs indicating invalid transceiver and driver errors.

Hello Laurent,
Just an update. I thought I would try some more expensive SFP’s for a different run. These are Proline Options GLC-BX-D-CDW and GLC-BX-U-CDW units. They are even worse in your switch, the show fiber-ports optics-info command can’t even determine the Compliance field and the show fiber-ports optics command doesn’t even recognize that the SFP is installed and running. So, my question to you is what brands of SFP’s are certified with your switches AND run bi-directional on a single fiber.ThanksDan- LaurentMaNov 29, 2016NETGEAR Expert
Hi Daniel
To answer your question, we did not certifiy bi-directional / single fiber modules for our M4100 series switches yet. We may want to do so asap now that we have inputs about compatibility issues. Thank you for your feedback.
So far we certified following BiDi modules for our M6100 Chassis Switch:
J9142B
1000BASE-BX10-D
HP® X122 1G SFP LC BX-D Transceiver
J9143B
1000BASE-BX10-U
HP® X122 1G SFP LC BX-U Transceiver
We are going to test them asap and I will report results here. On your end please confirm the following to me:
- With Calix 100-01668 and 100-01669 units, do you show normal Ethernet traffic without packet loss and is this only 'show fiber-ports optics all' CLI command behavior/reporting capability issue?
- With Proline Options GLC-BX-D-CDW and GLC-BX-U-CDW units, do you show normal Ethernet traffic without packet loss and is this only 'show fiber-ports optics-info' CLI command and 'show fiber-ports optics' CLI command behavior/reporting capability issue?
Thanks and regards,
