- Is there a max length to the stack link between switches? ie, we have a main server room plus a wire closet in a different part of the building. Can I just have a couple of long ethernet cable run between the rooms and them all in the same stack? Is this even a recommended practice?
As long as the ethernet cable does support it, it will work. For an ethernet cable, max length is 295 feet(90 meters).
- In a different building we have two separate stacks that are uplinked with just a gigabit ethernet line. Is there a better way to uplink these two stacks?
You can just create 1 stack on all your switches.
- I have a stack 3 switch stack that is linked 1 > 2 > 3 but doesn't have a connection between 3 > 1. Other stack I've seen have thing, is it necessary? What does this link from the bottom of the stack back to the top do?
You should have a connection going back to stack 1 for redundancy just in case 1 connection fails.
