Trunk ports shutting down

So I have two switches that are on opposite ends of the business site. We'll call them Switch A and B. Switch A is in a new building, has a basic set up to allow connectivity on the network and is pretty new. It connects back to our mdf via fiber connection to a switch we'll call switch C. Switch B is in an office and the purpose for it will be for desks with phones to connect to via POE and it has a fiber link that connects to another switch in the same space and then that switch (we'll call this switch D) connects back to switch C. Now, sometimes the trunk port will just disable and in order to get it back up, i need to power cycle the switch and it comes back up fine. I don't see anything in the logs other than the port went down. I checked the transceivers and they are the netgear transceivers and each end shows the right type. I tried moving ports but same behavior. Usually, after power cycle, the switch would stay on from a few days to a few weeks but today, it goes down anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. We have quite a few netgear switches and these are the only two doing it.

  • Check the switch logs on both sides of the link FMI.

Lack of a crystal ball, I would tend to ask about a simple layout graphics, and insight about the configuration related to STP (similar RSTP, MTP, ...), potentially some other Loop Protection configured.

While taking about GS752TPv2, these are Smart Switches, not Managed Switch models. Have requested a moderator to move to the Plus And Smart Switches Forum to discuss Smart Switches (T) and Plus Switches (E), including Local and Remote Management..

  • Ok here's a quick diagram. All the switches involved are using RSTP, BPDU guard enabled where possible (the Switch in the MDF is actually a layer 3 distribution switch actually) on the other switches, ports that aren't trunks are portfast enabled and loopguard on the trunk is enabled. However, on switch B, I had loop guard enabled on its trunk port but it would end up being put in a discarding state after some time. Hopefully this provides some insight. I was told that the error is more or less a notification. You can view that post here https://community.netgear.com/t5/Managed-Switches/Loop-detected-but-feature-not-enabled/m-p/2339635
