Web firmware upgrade for GS108Ev3 failing

A firmware upgrade for an GS108ev3 failed using the webinterface (Linux user). The switch continues to work but I can't find the IP adress in my Netgear router. After connection an windows machine and installing the netgear software the switch is found but with a strange IP adres (192.168.0.239). Using your software (latest version) to upload the latest firmware gives no result because of the following error:

"The switch and manager IP adress are not in the same subnet!"

I have tried to use no dhcp, used the s/n as password but nothing works. Please advice

  • Hi Jos023,

    Kindly try the steps below:

    A. Power Reset the GS108Ev3

    1. Disconnect the GS108Ev3 switch from your existing network and make sure its turned on.  Get a straightened paper clip.

    2. Insert the paper clip to the factory defaults hole then press and hold the factory reset button inside it for 30 seconds.

    3. After 30 seconds, turn off the GS108Ev3 switch while you still continue to press and hold the factory reset button.  Wait for 5 seconds.

    4. After 5 seconds, turn on the GS108Ev3 switch while you still continue to press and hold the factory reset button.  Wait for another 5 seconds.

    5. After 5 seconds, release the paper clip from the factory reset button.  Wait for the GS108Ev3 switch to boot up properly.

    B. Upgrade the Firmware of the GS108Ev3

    1. Download the latest firmware on this link: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30281

    2. Save it to your desktop screen of your PC for ease of access.

    3. The firmware is in a zip file. Kindly unzip it and save it to your desktop screen.

    4. Disconnect the GS108Ev3 switch from your existing network.  Connect the same PC where you download the latest firmware to a working LAN port of your GS108Ev3 switch.

    5.  Set a static IP address of 192.168.0.210 to your PC.

    6. Open a browser like Google Chrome or Firefox then at the address bar of it, type 192.168.0.239 then press Enter. Login to the user interface of switch. Enter "admin" as the username and "password" as the password.

Note: The default IP address of GS108Ev3 is 192.168.0.239.

    7. Click Maintenance then click Download.

    8. On the left column, click HTTP File Download.

    9. On File Type, select Archive.

    10. Click Browse then locate the latest firmware v2.00.08 that you have unzipped earlier.

    11. Click Apply.

Note: After a file transfer is started, please wait until the page refreshes. When the page refreshes, the Select File option will be blanked out. This indicates that the upgrade process is done.

    C. Reset the GS108Ev3 back to factory defaults after firmware upgrade.

Note: It is recommended to perform a factory reset after a successful firmware upgrade.

    1. Make sure the GS108Ev3 is turned on.  Get a straightened paper clip.

    2. Insert the paper clip to the factory defaults hole then press and hold the factory reset button inside it for 30 seconds.

    3. After 30 seconds, release the paper clip from the factory reset button.  Wait for the GS108Ev3 switch to boot up properly.

    Hope it helps. :)

    Hello Jos023,

    Welcome to the community!

The IP address 192.168.0.239 is the default IP of the switch, it appears that the switch does not grab an IP from your DHCP server. Perform a factory default reset on your switch by pushing the "Factory Defaults" button on the front part of the switch or using the utility go to System>Maintenance>Factory Default

    Let us know what happens.

    Thanks,

Factory reset does not work. And only the first and last tab works in the sofware (Network & Help). The other options are grey and nog clickable.

        Hello Jos023,

After selecting the switch (model) under Network tab, please click on Apply and enter your password. This will let you use the other tabs. Then go to System>Maintenance>Factory Default

        Thanks,
