can I connect laptop and hub to powered switch
I have run out of unpowered ports on my switch (8 are powered and 8 unpowered)
I have a surface pro with a hub. Is it safe to connect it to a powered port? I don't know if this switch is "passive" or "always on" Will it detect that my hub does not require PoE?
Thanks - Allison
Hi rossoffice,
Welcome to the community! :)
It is safe to connect non-PoE devices such as computers, network printers or laptops to any PoE port of the JGS516PE switch (or any NETGEAR switch).
Let me share the article below and read the section: "Can I mix PoE and non-PoE devices in my network?"
What is PoE? (Power over Ethernet)
If ever your concern has been addressed or resolved, I encourage you to mark the appropriate reply as the “Accepted Solution” so others can be confident in benefiting from the solution. The NETGEAR Community looks forward to hearing from you and being a helpful resource in the future!
