GS105PE Not allowing firmware upgrade
When I try to put the switch into bootloader mode to upgrade the firmware, the switch stops responding to pings, and refuses to allow me to do anything with it until I reboot it. Traffic continues to...

From my old notes - many months passed since updating bunches of GS105PE- I've seen the switch rebooting and entering into the loader mode. In this state, a Web form is called, allowing to upload the new firmware image.
Worth a try is to update the switch in the off-network mode, without a DHCP server on the LAN, just connected to a PC adapter, configuring the PC to e.g. to a static IP address of 192.168.0.123 and 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask, and then access the GS105PE on http://192.168.0.239/
Note: If you are unsure how to do this, it's all in the RT*M, Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switches User Manual, in the "Access a switch that is off-network" P.19 ff.Here I'm at my wits end on this...

Wild guess, based on some previous community member posts, it appears your unknown Web browser dos not start the firmware upload form again, after changing to loader mode.
Try an alternate Web browser, like Chrome for example.

I have tried using Chrome, Firefox, (and gag, even Edge) as well as the ProSafe Plus Utility to do the update, it always does the same thing, stops responding, and has to be rebooted to get the switch back.

Thanks, that worked, and for the record, I did RT*M. There is nothing in the firmware update area in the above linked manual talking about needing to have it default to the Netgear standard switch IP (pp. 61-62), in fact, the way it is worded, it makes it sound like you should be doing this at the configured IP address (step 8 of the firmware update instructions).

This was just the last idea remaining, no complaint on your effort. Don't have any records left under which conditions we had to use the hard way, using the default IP config.

Of course, it should be possible to apply the update on the deployed device. Last updates we have done here was the small step from 1.6.0.10 to .17, live on a large POS retailer environment.
Remains the question by how far your deployment derives from the default, and from the common 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 network, being in DHCP or static config. Have an eye in the GS105PE Firmware Version 1.6.0.17 Release Notes on the subnet mask and special IP addresses. Can you recognize anything in parallel with your working deployment, which required using the default IP workaround?
Happy you managed the update 8-). Wish you a wonderful weekend!
