GS308EPP

Appears that switch is providing power in mode A pinout. Need to use mode B pinout (using spare pins). How do you set this up?

  • The NETGEAR 802.3af/at PoE switches supports ALT-A mode (Ethernet 1,2,3,6 pair) and will deliver power to PD’s (power devices), that should cover 10/100Mbps devices. If only using 2 pair cable, the you must make sure that the PD supports ALT-A and must use CAT5 for 10/100M, or CAT5E for 1000M (4pair).

Keep in mind that without  PD, the PSE (power source equipment, here the switch) does not supply any PoE voltage without the proper IEEE negotiation.

When you think about the fact that Gigabit Ethernet does use all four pairs, and modern PoE chipsets are negotiating accordingly as per the PD (powered device) requirements this shouldn't be an issue, and to allow more power on 802.11bt all four pairs are on PoE power.

What wonderful PoE PD (make, model, ...) are you trying to PoE power from the GS308EPP? Probably something not 802.11af/.11at compliant?
