I cannot change default password
Prosafe
| XS748T |
it's a managed switch.
I took everything out of the box mounted in my rack powered it on. I then when using the web ui loggedd in using password as password. I get in tells me to register your product. I click to register it. It tells me to register it and then proceed. I click register but nothing happens so I then click the X in the upper right of the window and it closes it. I then went to change password
In old password put the old password as password.
Then I entered new password in the newpassword text box and same with repeate.
After I click enter or apply I get a window saying this:
The Password cannot be updated. No such user admin
when I click the link to register it says it cannot connec t to the registeration server and said that check your in ternet connection. My internet connection is fine. I registered going on netgear website and I put my serial number etc and registered it that way.
I clicked factory resets the hard button. Thinking this would clear evyerthing and start over but now I login with password password and I g et a promt to make a new password and about maybe 1 minute later the window changes to cannot connect to the registeration server and to please check my internet connections. I then check if I have internet and I do. However, I am now stuck and I cannot change the default password. I check the fourms and most say the characters they used is not permitted.
I used a ! in the password. So, ,I just used a plain like Password54 and still I get the same message. Any ideas?

Hello cooltom and welcome to the Netgear Community!
The registration message can come up if there is a temporary cloud issue - or if the Web browser and/or some fancy Internet "security" does refuse to execute certain code. The same problem could cause the odd password change problem.
Let me guess: Firefox, probably on a Linux desktop, or some other fancy Web browser? Please give a try on an alternate Web browser like Chrome for the initial set-up.
Then update to a current firmware from https://www.netgear.com/support/product/XS748T.aspx#download
Just realized (we know it can be caused by certain security enhancements in place) the current firmware can continue to pop-up the Registration page displays again after a reboot even if it was turned off before.
Good luck!

I used windows 10 and google chrome when I registered the product. I restarted the switch thinking that it might clear it up.
That window keeps popping up. I even a couple times hit the factory reset button. I only have default settings on.
However, when I go to security change password. I type in old password as password and then make a new password when I click apply I get a window sayying error no such user : admin. No matter what I do I cannot change the default password.
I even tried changing the password without using special characters because some others on this site said that is wha tthey did an it went thru and my password is greater than 8 char and less than 20. It has a combo of capital letters and numbers mixed in.
I just bought the switch and the dealer that sold it to me says the firmware is up to date out of the box no need to update the firmware.

Hi,
just a 2025 update. i had the same issue, when i did a factory reset, you are meant to get the 'change password option' that only appears for me in Edge, it didn't appear in Chrome. so load the page up in Edge after a reset and you can then change the password with out the 'no such user : admin' error.
