Presales Q: GS108T vs GS308T

I am trying to work out the main differences between the current GS108T and GS308T models. Both are similarly priced and appear to have similar functionality. Are they aimed at different market segments or one a more recent model?

Looking for a small managed switch in a medium complex SOHO environment.

Any pointers appreciated

  • naylom,

    Welcome to the community! :)

Here is the main difference.  The GS108T can be powered on using two methods.  First is by using the power adapter that comes with its package contents.  Secondly, by using Port 1 connected to a PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) such as a PoE switch.  Port 1 of the GS108T is a PoE PD (Powered Device) port that can receive PoE power so that you can you use the switch without a power adapter.  The latest GS108T switch model is the GS108Tv3 (v = version).  As reference, kindly read pages 20, 23 and 38 of the GS108Tv3 Hardware Installation Guide here.

With the GS308T, it can only be powered on using its power adapter that comes with its package contents.
