Setup MS510TXM for NAS usage

Hi, i work in video production and I manage a few teams that upload footage to my NAS (Synology 1821+) on a regular basis, so I bought the MS510TXM Switch so I can benefit from the 4 x10G ports, so we can edit off the NAS, i am trying to do 2 things:

 

1. assign static IP addresses for the 10g ports, and the rest can be dynamic.

2. open port forwarding for ports 5000, 5001, 6690 so the speeds won't be super slow when people are uploading externally via Quickconnect.to, I already did that on the modem. 

 

we have 1.5gb down and 940mb/s upload, However i tested having a friend of mine upload some files who lives 5 mins from me who has the same speeds and he was uploading over 1.2MB/s, Usually people upload around 150GB worth of footage and this is going to take days at these speeds.

 

can someone help, pls

    We are talking about the Synology Quickconnect, right? Well, your switch doesn’t really have anything to do with Quickconnect.

     

    I happened to own a couple of Synology NASes. I do not use Quickconnect myself, but I have read the Quickconnect white paper (https://global.download.synology.com/download/Document/Software/WhitePaper/Firmware/DSM/All/enu/Synology_QuickConnect_White_Paper.pdf) so I have some idea how it works. Quickconnect implements a couple of connectivity methods which are selected automatically. It appears to me that in your case Quickconnect selected the Quickconnect Relay Service which is very slow. The “fast” method involves hole punching in your router’s firewall. That hole is a randomly selected port so I guess it requires UPnP enabled and working on your Internet router. However, enabling UPnP on a router is not recommended for security reason. Instead of using Quickconnect, you may like to implement your own secured access method.

    Switches in the MS510TXM class don't have a local DHCP server, so dynamic IP assignments must be done form the existing network infrastructure, for example the existing DHCP server on the network typically the ISP supplied or the whatever NAT router is handling DHCP.

     

    The same applies to the port forwarding - nothing the switch can do on this aspect. Again, NAT port forwarding is a job for the NAT router, e.g. the ISP supplied or whatever other NAT router taking care for the many2one NAT and the port forwarding.
