Voice VLAN on smart switches
My company is thinking about getting VoIP phones. Which means our Netgear switches needs to be setup for voice VLAN. We have a mix of Netgear smart switches. Is there a guide for setting up voice VLAN?
Right now, my setup is like this.
On the Meraki router I have VLANs 2,3 and 4, these are setup as trunk ports on the Meraki.
Then I have 3 Netgear switches. Switch one have VLAN 2 only, no VLAN 1. The management VLAN, PVID, membership and VLAN Tag is 2 for all ports on this switch. Same setup for VLAN 3 and 4 switches (VLAN 3 switch, everything is on VLAN 3, VLAN 4 switch, everything is on VLAN 4). All of the ports on the 3 switches are trunk. Everything is working fine.
I'm just wondering what changes I need to make for voice VLAN?
Hi tonynsx,
Welcome to our community!
You may need to add the OUI of the VoIP so that it will automatically be assigned to its VLAN. Once the switch detects that you connected a phone which is registered in the switch, it will automatically be tagged.
Here is a document that will walk you through the setup: Voice VLAN on Smart Switches
