Can't get the lights to work on gs305 v3

I just bought a gs305 v3 and I plugged it in and ran a cable from my router and it lights up but when I plug in another cable I get no lights to come on any suggestions

    Reads like a basic problem with that other cable of an Ethernet link can't be established.

      Does that mean the switch is bad because it doesn't connect on the other end

        If another cable does work as expected to establish a link between the switch and device like a computer or another switch - figure.
