GS105, GS205, GS305 or GS605?

Hi guys,

I need a GigaBit switch for my home network, maybe I will insert the switch into the wall (in a sort of box).

I see the site suggests me to buy GS205 or GS605, but what is the difference of between these models?

And why shouldn't I buy GS105 or GS305?

    Hello j0kky,

    Welcome to the community!

The switches mentioned have the same functionality since they are all gigabit switches. They differ though in enclosures used, plastic for 200 series (GS205) and metal for 300 series (GS305). They pretty much have the same standards so any of the switches should work. The GS605 model is EOL(End of life) and the GS105 is an old model so I might consider getting the 205 or the 305 instead. • I think it was EOL'ed just the "old" GS605, but now there is the new GS605 (GS605v5) which is currently supported... Anyway, what is better, plastic or metal? (thinking about heat and generally about wear)

      Hi j0kky,

Yes, you are correct. the older versions have been EOL'ed the V5 has gone through some changes on aesthetics and probably different chips used. All of these models are fanless because they don't really generate that  much heat. But if you are going to ask me, I'll go for the metal versions.

      Thanks,

  • So I'll go for GS305.

    Thank you for your help!
