GS 108T + opt. GS 105; Poor performance / low bandwith / Smart Control Center doesn't find switches

Hello all,

I encounter regulary very bad performance if my GS 108T and opt. GS 105 is used, which is my normal network setup.

Here are the average download speeds measured by the browser for a 1,7 GB file:

1. AVM Fritzbox 7590 => GS 108T => GS105 => PC: ~ 120 kB/s  (download fails after random time)

2. AVM Fritzbox 7590 => GS 108T => PC: ~ 5.x MB/s

3. AVM Fritzbox 7590 => PC: ~ 19.x MB/s

What could be the root cause for those performance values?

Details:

VDSL + Vectoring 173 MBit/s provided by Deutsche Telekom

AVM Fritzbox 7590 (newest OS version)

GS 108T: unknown firmware version

GS105:  unknown firmware version

PC: Desktop PC, Intel 1 GB/s NIC, Windows 10 (v 20H2) PC, browser: LibreWolf (64 bit)

Additional question:

SmartControlCenter v1.1.3.4 doesn't find any switch in my network.

I tried it on two PCs either directly connected to the Fritzbox, connected to the GS108T and connected to the GS105.

I would appreciate any help. I want to avoid to repalce my devices by other models.

Best Regards,

Oliver

    Oliver,

    Hard to say what issue we're facing here.

    The GS108T exists in at least three hardware versions - check the product label exactly, also compare to the https://netgear.com/support/ details when looking-up the GS108T(v1), GS108T(v2), and GS108T(v3) -  just enter GS108T there to browse the different versions.Note there are also many other GS108 models - unmanaged, configureable Plus ("E"), anbd Smart Managed "T" models.

    If the other is really a GS105 - note there are GS105, GS105v5, GS105E, GS105E(v2), and a GS105PE. Again please compare the product label and the images from the support page above - just enter GS105 there to browse the different versions.

    Typical cause (>99% of the issues) are wiring and cabling related. Very few are some interoperability problems, rarely hardware failures.

    SCC is a legacy thing for old and old-old switches.

    Start with the NETGEAR Switch Discovery Tool (NSDT) which does identify all decent Plus and Pro switches.

    Ensure the undefined GS108T is on a current firmware (matching the hardware of course), and try a factory reset.
