Internet drops on devices connected to router (not switch) after installing GS108v4
Equipment: Router/Modem - Arris SBG7600AC2 (2+ years old, 4 Ethernet ports) Switch - GS108v4 (new) Devices - both Windows 11, connected directly to router The Windows devices have both WIF...

Arris Firmware Version: 9.1.103AA72
First test: connected the switch to the router, and a Windows 11 computer to the switch. No other connections to the router, no other connections to the switch. Just one PC to the switch and the switch to the router.
Result: "Unknown network" and the router refused to assign an IP address to the computer (through the switch),
Disconnected the switch, reconnected the computer directly to the router - full connectivity. (Hence my ability to post this update.)
I am going to check security settings on the Arris, but it would seem that it doesn't recognize any hardward connected via the switch. I actually have a couple other switches so I can test for a hardware failure, but first I want to eliminate "soft" solutions to this.

The same cable which is feeding the PC directly was the one I used to connect to the switch.
I will check test the cable connecting the swtich to the router.
Result: Bingo!
I had allocated what I thought was my best cable to the router - switch connection. I guess that was wrong.
Thanks.
Follow-up question: thoughts on cat-x level to use to optimize gigabyt router and switching?

Any ethernet cables I buy anymore are either cat 6 from a reputable dealer or ones I make myself. Sadly, even when I make them myself, I still have to redo some ends sometimes 🙂
